During my high school years (which ended four years ago???), I liked looking for any local bands who were trying to find some strands of success in the local sphere. Along with that, I loved going shows in the area where these bands would be showcased. I got so involved with the scene that I became good friends with a lot of artists in the area and came away with a good stack of homemade cds.

Still one of my most favorite things to come out of Little Rock, Underclaire.

Once I got to college, I was drawn miles away from my musical base. Naturally I got busy. So busy that I stopped going to concerts as often as I was used to. My first year of college, I was lacking a car, and my second year on I didn't really know where to go. Another factor was that I was frequently going back and forth between my college home and my new family home in Oklahoma City. Every summer I have been pretty unsettled, but this summer I finally have the chance to explore a new musical setting and get back to my high school state of mind.

I took my research to the internet to see what's what and who's who in OKC. Between Oklahoma CIty and Tulsa, there is a very strong presence of musicians from all genres. I googled new bands, old bands, upcoming concerts, festivals in the area, interviews with new artists in Oklahoma, and with every google search, I was always directed to a band called We the Ghost. It'd befoolish to not give them a chance, right? So I clicked on the link to their homepage. This was the video featured on the front from their appearance at Rocklahoma 2015:

"Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" by We The Ghost

I think people forget how satisfying a violin can be in a pop band (or in any non-classical genre for that matter). When I first heard this excerpt from their performance, I thought this sound would be similar to if Of Monsters and Men and Lindsay Stirling collaborated with each other. It's clear that this song has a strong, intense overall presence, so it is no wonder that this is the first video that they hit you with when you get to their site.

The group is barely two years old, and they are already so widely known in the area! The band's success can be chalked up to their ability to combine multiple genres of music. “So much has been done,” (Beau Tyler, vocalist/guitarist) says, “that fusion seems to be the obvious approach. Maybe not reinventing the wheel, maybe not introducing a new sound, but taking what it is you love in music and creating your own thing, being original within that.” When a lot of music sounds the same these days, this is the best model to adapt to.

"Let Me Know" by We The Ghost

Moving past their homepage, I went next to their video section where I found their song, "Let Me Know". This song had more of the pop feel that I was used to, but still I feel that they were able to distinguish themselves from the common pop band sound. Not only is the quality of music beautiful, the lyrics create a beautiful image of someone going through hell and high water to get to someone they love. I would next recommend their song "Sinking Suspicion" for listening if this song was enjoyed.

I look forward to getting back out on the music scene and seeing what's in store. If We The Ghost is any example of what Oklahoma City has to offer, I am beyond thrilled to see what artists I find next. I've fallen for the violin all over again.

FIRMO- Liquefied Ghost (for the 21+, of course)

It fits with the name of the band, as well as with my presence within music community these past couple years. Recipe found here :http://www.foodnetwork.co.uk/recipes/liquefied-ghost.html
